“We knew they were throwing their best,” said Lake Central Baseball Coach Mike Swartzentruber, “I thought our guys were ready to play.”

In the second inning, the Indians were able to score five runs, which gave them a lead that they would sustain for the rest of the game.

The middle of the game was dry. The 80º heat and gray skies made the game feel even longer. No runs were made again until the 7th inning. The Crown Point Bulldogs did not make any runs. It was a defensive back and forth with neither of the teams getting a hold of their offense.

However, it is safe to say that the wait was worth it. The Indian’s win became definite when they hit a home run in the 7th inning, earning them three more runs. The Crown Point Bulldogs could not put it together in their last shot to score at the bottom of the 7th, giving Lake Central the win.

“I thought [Lake Central’s] pitcher did a nice job,” Said Crown Point Baseball Coach Steve Strayer, “We couldn’t get to him. We couldn’t get a rhythm going. He kept us off balance and you got to tip your hat to him, he did a very nice job.”

Lake Central is now scheduled to play the winner of the Mishawaka against Northridge game at 7 PM tonight at Schreiber Field.
