The Valparaiso Police Department is currently accepting applications for the 2019 Citizen’s Police Academy. The department’s annual academy provides an opportunity for community members to experience what it is like to be a Valparaiso Police Officer. The Academy is designed for attendees to meet police officers and learn about their assignments, specialties, and daily operations. There are several topics featured throughout the program: investigations, Indiana Law, traffic enforcement, crash investigations, patrol duties, K9 Unit, Bike Unit, Taser usage, Drone team, firearm scenarios, and many more.
The academy will meet on Tuesdays, beginning March 19, 2019 for nine (9) weeks, excluding March 26. Classes will begin at 6:30 p.m. and conclude by 9:30 p.m. each night. The courses will all be held at the Valparaiso Police Department. Applications for the academy are available at the Valparaiso Police Department or on-line at www.valparaisopolice.org. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have submitted an application prior to attending. Applications must be returned to the Valparaiso Police Department by March 8, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. to be considered for the 2019 academy, as space is limited. Please contact Sgt. E.J.
