Journey Senior Living Hosts Coffee and Conversation to get Acquainted with Community

On Thursday morning, Valparaiso’s newest senior living facility, Journey Senior Living, hosted a coffee and conversation talk at the Hilton Garden Inn in Chesterton to introduce people to their mission. The talk, led by Journey Senior Living President Blair Minton, highlighted the positive aspects of the upcoming facility and fielded questions from those in attendance.

This new facility, projected to open March 1st, will consist of 76 assisted living units and boast 24 memory care units. The company is excited to bring its offerings to Valparaiso and the surrounding community.

“This is our third community and we’re excited to be in Valparaiso,” explained Minton. “Valparaiso is one of the fastest growing towns in Indiana and we love the location next to Porter, it’s a wonderful location.”

With roughly 30 years of experience building senior care facilities, Minton knows the ins and outs. His background in both nursing and engineering has given him a unique perspective and ability to create facilities that cater to the needs of the elderly population.

“This is my 52nd project,” explained Minton. “We believe in safety, security, love, compassion, and dignity. That’s what we do.”

The facility, as mentioned by Minton, Boasts a great location near Porter Regional Hospital. Patty Stovall, Project Coordinator for the Porter Business Park where the facility is located, has enjoyed her time working with Journey Senior Living and ensuring that the construction goes well for them.

“The vision for the park, with the hospital being next door, has really been to support that community,” explained Stovall. “We really try to support the people who come into our park and see if there’s anything they need.”

For those in attendance at the Coffee and Conversation event, the new facility provides options. For many, caring for a parent with memory concerns, or even planning for their own future has become a prominent thought in their minds. For Sandy Kelley, an attendee of the event, memory care is of the utmost important to her as she cares for her mother with dementia.

“Right now, my mom lives with me, but it’s getting difficult. We’re trying to look for a place for her to go for memory care. I’m looking for a memory and dementia focus rather than throwing her into just any nursing home, they have a much more home like atmosphere,” explained Kelley.

For those in attendance at the event, many questions were answered, and options provided. With a new senior care facility taking shape, many took the opportunity to research, explore, and learn more about the options available for themselves or a loved one.
