Wednesday night, residents of Addison Pointe Health & Rehabilitation Center gathered round in their best pair of cowboy boots at the annual Hoe-down. Everyone was fixin’ for a good time as they enjoyed some classic country blues and fun times with family and friends.
“This is our sixth annual event. It always brings everyone here closer together and means so much to our residents,” said Mindy Hawkins, Director of Life Enrichment at Addison Pointe. “It’s something we always look forward to putting on as a staff.”
Residents and guests were serenaded by Chris Williams, Addison Pointe’s Activities Assistant and Chaplin turned country-star, as they mingled in the lobby before dinner. Williams sang classic country tunes by Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers, Hank Williams, and other classic artists as guests made their way into the event.
“I really enjoy performing for the residents,” said Williams. “I think they get a kick out of it.”
After their meals, guests were invited over to a selfie station where they could get their picture taken in front of some old saloon doors or stand in a life size cut out of a wanted poster and pose as an outlaw. Every guest was given a bandana in the color of their choice and a cowboy hat, but a few residents made sure to bust out their own collection of southern memorabilia for the event. Residents showed off their best flannels, blue jeans and boots for the event, while a few even wore their own handkerchiefs, adding a personal flare to the party.
Before the night would end guests were corralled into the ballroom to be entertained by a very special guest. J.J. Brook, a local entertainer originally from Wales but now calls Northwest Indiana home, enjoys bringing his musical talents to local people like the residents at Addison Pointe.
“I love it here and I love the people,” said Brook. “What I do brings me a great amount of joy, but nothing pleases me more than making others happy and giving back to those who need a little extra support.”
Brook encouraged everyone to join him as he walked through the crowd, leading them in singing classic country ballads throughout the evening, as well as some impromptu line-dancing lessons. The night was filled with laughter and heartwarming moments that truly showed how Addison Pointe Health & Rehabilitation Center values well-rounded patient care.
