Pulse Technology kickstarts the heart of businesses

On July 21, 2017 at 4:52 p.m., a tornado ripped the roof off of Pulse Technology’s Illinois headquarters, sending everything the raging storm had to offer pouring into their high-tech facility. That was a Friday. But Monday morning, the company was up and running at a remote location and their IT customers never knew the difference.

For that disaster, Pulse Technology was their own best customer, implementing all the processes and support systems they offer their outside clients to keep them open for business when it mattered most.

At a lunch and learn session on February 21 in Chesterton, Pulse Technology’s Chief Technology Officer Gerard Iannuzzelli, and Director of Sales Support Michael Marzelli outlined the comprehensive managed IT services they offer, highlighting what sets them apart from others in the industry.

"The key word, Iannuzzelli said, is “managed.”

“Sure, many places will sell you a computer or a printer. But we are so much more than that. We can help you choose the right products based on your specific needs, we will install it, support it, and handle upgrades when it’s time for that. Pulse Technology is here to help you manage your technologic solutions so you don’t have to,” he said.

Based on questions from attendees, the Pulse crew spent a lot of time talking about their managed backup services - the key feature that helped them recover so quickly from the tornado disaster a couple years ago. The proactive, two-tiered backup system, supported by their comprehensive network management professionals, help businesses become more efficient in whatever level of service they need.

“We know that taking care of customers during times of trouble is the number one thing, because if we can do that well, we can do everything well,” Iannuzzelli said.

Pulse Technology’s managed IT services are centered around building a relationship with clients to simplify their IT environment. Some companies have full-fledged internal IT departments and just need back-up support. Others have no IT department or resources at all, so Pulse manages their entire IT programs.

The cornerstone of their managed IT services, though, is the Virtual Chief Information Officer. The service sets them apart from other providers, giving companies access to the executive-level technology support they need without incurring the expense of hiring a full-time IT department and executive leadership.

“This is about keeping continuity between the business itself, and technology,” Iannuzzelli said.

“We want to be your partner and function as your entire IT staff if that’s what you need,” Marzelli added. “Virtual doesn’t just mean we are only interacting with you over machines or the phone. Virtual also means I am serving as your CIO at the company and a key member of the business team,” he said.

The full program includes 24/7 monitoring, remote desk help, internet security, email security, data backup and recover, hardware protection, and monthly executive summary reports. Pulse takes a hard line on supporting computers and hardware older than five years because of the security vulnerability risk, but also offers expert assistance to companies who need to get on a healthy equipment replacement and maintenance plan. They also bring a level of industry-related knowledge to businesses so they don’t have to be experts in cumbersome regulatory standards for their IT systems. Pulse Technology staff, for example, know the ins and outs of governments acts and regulations required of healthcare facilities and others who store and work with sensitive information.

Product-wise, Pulse Technology has come a long way from where they started. Their story began in 1955 in a Des Plaines garage where they sold and serviced typewriters and calculators. At the recent lunch and learn, Iannuzzelli and Marzelli swiped a large interactive whiteboard as they showcased the solutions they can provide to help businesses communicate, collaborate, and disseminate crystal clear messages, brilliantly.

One client sought to turn a room in their historic winery/castle into a highly-interactive video conference center with a giant video wall. The caveat: many elements within the space needed to be preserved for historic reasons, but Pulse Technology delivered.

James Dunn, sales manager with Crexendo - the Pulse Technology partner who delivers voice over internet protocol (VoIP) services - also provided information about how this technology has become the industry standard at most businesses for telephone management systems.

After presenting information on customer support, managed services, and all the products Pulse Technology offers, Iannuzzelli and Marzelli opened the floor for questions and discussion.

“This is pretty much a consumer’s dream come true in terms of everything you offer,” one participant said.
