The Munster High School dance teams had a very successful year. The teams start in May and the season goes until the middle of March.
In the fall, the teams practice 3-4 days a week and perform at football games. Dance competitions start in December and add an additional day to the practice week. Throughout the year the Dance teams also participated in the walk for the Cancer Resource Center, donated to the Carmelite home for the holidays, hosted kid’s camps and supported the school. The girls also attend dance classes and condition outside of their practice days.
The junior varsity team ended the season with a 1st place finish in pom and 2nd place finish in jazz at the Indiana High School Dance Team Association state (IHSDTA) competition. Their team consists of 9 members and is coached by Schhaya Gray. The team members are Halle Asplund, Marina Gasich, Taylor Graham, Abigail Kavanaugh, Alyse Lepir, Kailyn Oganovich, Taylor Olmstead, Emily Rakich, and Clara Zuniga. There were 4 girls that choose to do an additional dance that added extra practices to their weeks schedule. The small ensemble consisting of Halle Asplund, Taylor Graham, Kailyn Oganovich, and Clara Zuniga earned 1st place at state. Team leaders were Alyse Lepir and Kailyn Oganovich.
The varsity team ended the season with a 1st place finish in pom and 2nd place finish in jazz at the IHSDTA state competition. The team consists of 16 members and is coached by Cindy Banas. The varsity team members are Reem Alsakaji, Alina Arzumanian, Bella Buono, Jill Cuvala, Jamie DeJoan, Monica Fronczek, Layna Kounelis, Emma Harvath, Ceci Lipschultz, Stephanie Niemiec, Payton Poulston, Abbey Ruckert, Savanah Sharpe, Alyssa Strege, Alexandra Vjestica, and Victoria Williams. The team also had dancers compete in the solo, duet and large ensemble categories. In the junior solo category, Stephanie Niemiec took 3rd place at state. In the duet category, Payton Poulston and Abbey Ruckert earned 2nd place at state. The large ensemble earned 1st place at state. The members of the large ensemble are Jill Cuvala, Monica Fronczek, Emma Harvath, Stephanie Niemiec, Savanah Sharpe, Alexandra Vjestica, and Victoria Williams. The varsity team was led by Emma Harvath.
Munster High School Congratulates both teams. The teams learned to work together and support each other. They put in a lot of time and their hard work paid off in great performances and outcomes at state.
