Lake Central High School Girls Basketball finished among the Top 10 in the final IBCA and 4A Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association (ICGSA) regular season polls this week, while Merrillville Boys Basketball came in at #3 and Griffith #11 in the IBCA Boys Top 20.
The ICGSA #6 and IBCA #9 Lady Indians finished out the regular season strong last week with a tough 60-54 win over Hammond Morton which put their final record at 22-1 with 18 straight wins heading into Sectionals. Lake Central plays Lowell this Wednesday in a tough sectional that could pit them against their toughest Region opponent of the year, Gary West Side, in the finals.
In other Northwest Indiana Girls Basketball polls, Marquette Catholic finished the season at #3 in the ICGSA 1A Top 10, while East Chicago Central and Gary West Side received votes in the final 4A poll.
On the Boys Basketball side, #3 Merrillville is entering into DAC portion of their schedule with a Thursday contest against Lake Central before games against La Porte and Michigan City. Griffith Boys play Munster on Thursday, the first of a four game road stretch that will be sure to test the Panthers before heading into Sectionals.
Others receiving votes this week: (Boys) Crown Point, East Chicago Central, Valparaiso (Girls) East Chicago Central, Gary West Side, Marquette.
