Merrillville Gets a Rainy Win in Portage

merr-portage-2014-1It was a cold and wet game under the Friday night lights on September 12, with visiting Merrillville pulling out a tough 20-15 win over Portage in rough weather conditions.

“This game was a nail biter," said Portage superfan Jacob Dickson. "Portage hasn’t had an 0-4 record since 1986 and Merrillville hasn’t lost three games in a row since 2002 It was inevitable that one of those outcomes were bound to happen, I just wish it was us who ended up on top."

merr-portage-2014-2Fans on both sides of the field were on edge as the game progressed and as the time on the scoreboard continued to dwindle down.

“Both teams played with heart," said Alexander Guerrero, a linebacker for the Indians. "We had some miscommunication, but we’ll learn from our mistakes, play tougher D (defense) and come out with a win next week."

merr-portage-2014-3Portage will look to get into the win column in 2014 with a visit to a 3-1 Crown Point team coming off their only loss of the season next Friday.

Merrillville (2-2) will host Michigan City.
