Crimson Wave Drops Road Finale To Saints

Crimson-Wave-Drops-Road-Finale-To-SaintsThe Calumet College of St. Joseph women's volleyball team wrapped up the road portion of their 2017 schedule Wednesday night, as they took on Saint Francis for the second time this season. The Saints hit .428 as a team, and assembled 49 kills in the match, as they easily dispatched the Crimson Wave 3-0 (12-25, 5-25, 19-25) in Joliet.

The Wave were unable to get anything going from the first serve, only putting multiple point strings together three times during the entire first set. Meanwhile, the Saints (17-21, 10-7 CCAC) used 19 kills throughout the opening frame to cruise to an easy 12-25 victory. Set two featured the worst start for CCSJ on the season. The Crimson and Gray allowed USF to rattle off 16 straight points, ending only when Saints server Leah Rose committed a service error. The 5-25 final set score was the worst on the season for the Wave, a set in which the Saints hit .824 and committed no errors. Set three featured a more focused Calumet team, not allowing Saint Francis to go on any sort of sustained run. The Wave would hit .217 during the final set, and only commit two errors, but USF used the power of 16 kills to wrap up the match victory 19-25.

Cheyenne Plecas (FR/Thorton, IL) and Alex Sullivan (JR/Munster, IN) shared the team lead in kills for CCSJ (3-27, 0-16 CCAC), each turning in six during the losing effort. Sullivan would also lead the team in digs with seven, while Johan Fackler turned in seven assists.

The Wave will now come home for their season finale tomorrow evening. Waiting for them will be Trinity Christian, a team that handed them a straight set defeat back on October 3rd. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 pm at the Rittenmeyer Center.
