Calumet College of St. Joseph’s Holden Defeats James, Falls Short in National Title Match to Be Named 2018 USCB ISC Men’s National Runner Up

History had already been made for the Calumet College of St. Joseph men's bowling team. For the first time in school history, the team placed two bowlers into the USBC ISC national semi-finals in the same year, and making it three in total that have met that high mark overall. What was even better is that the Crimson Wave were guaranteed to have a bowler represent the school in the national championship round. Unfortunately, the results in the last game of the season were less than be desired, but cannot take away from the amazing journey the team had.

CCSJ-Crimson-Wave-Bowling-Gets-Team-Play-Started-At-USBCThe day after qualifying Tyler James (JR/Deltona, Fla.) and Jeffrey Holden (JR/Salem, Ore.) into the semi-finals of the individual portion of the tournament, the Calumet College of St. Joseph men's bowling team kicked off the team slate at Sun Valley lanes in Lincoln, Neb. While the team didn't perform up to the high standards they have set for themselves throughout the season in qualifying, the Wave set themselves up nicely for the continuation of team play on Friday.

PNW-Flessner-Pitcher-of-Week-2018Junior Kyle Flessner (Thomasboro, Ill./Kankakee CC/Rantoul Township) from the Purdue Northwest baseball team was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week when the conference office released the honor Monday morning. Flessner struck out a program record 16 batters to fuel a one-hit shutout for PNW in a 5-0 win over Wayne State (Mich.) Saturday in game one of a doubleheader in Hammond, Ind.

PNW-Kendall-Shines-Purdue-Northwest-Drops-Final-Two-Games-to-NorthwoodFreshman Darius Kendall (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville) went a combined 5-for-8 at the plate with a double, a triple, two runs scored and four RBI; but the Purdue Northwest baseball team lost its final two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) series games with Northwood University (Mich.) Saturday afternoon at Albert’s Diamond Jewelers Field in Dowling Park in Hammond, Ind. The Pride dropped the seven-inning game, 13-10, and then had the Timberwolves score a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth to take the second game, 8-7.

CCSJ-Wave-Keeps-Rolling-With-Three-Game-Sweep-Of-TrojansOne day after snapping an extended losing streak, the Calumet College of St. Joseph baseball team were back at it again, playing two more against Trinity International. The games were supposed to be played in Deerfield, Ill., but were moved to Whiting due to field conditions. While the Crimson Wave had to play as the away team, the home field advantage helped, sending them to their first three game winning streak in almost exactly seven years.
