Dyer Nursing & Rehabilitation Host 2018 End of Summer Spectacular

Autumn is already here, and that means the leaves will soon be changing and the weather moving into colder temperatures. On Wednesday afternoon, Dyer Nursing & Rehabilitation threw an End of Summer Spectacular event to enjoy the warm weather before it ends for the year.

The residents and staff of Dyer Nursing & Rehabilitation eager to mingle and get to know each other a little better. A big part of this event was giving back to the community that helps keep the elderly safe.

Hot dogs sizzled on the grill as Jack Adams played his guitar and sang songs. Caricature artist Cara Dunning drew fun, wacky pictures of the attendees. The community truly came together to recapture old memories of summer barbeques and fun times.

Robert Pena, the Guest Relations Representative at Dyer Nursing & Rehabilitation, is the man to go to when it comes to making sure the residents enjoy themselves.

"They're able to get out their rooms and really experience the summer along with us," said Pena. "The residents look forward to it because they remember the times they've spent in the summer and it allows them to relive those memories."

Residents are always provided compassionate care by the Dyer Nursing & Rehabilitation staff. At the event, many staffers could be found holding umbrellas for the residents to shade them from the sun.

"I think this event brings the community together and we can network. It's fun, and it gives me ideas for our events as far as the caricature, and they have great raffle prizes as well," said attendee Andrea Daliege, manager for Dyer Parks and Recreation.

The raffle offered the lucky winner a brand new grill filled with all the necessary items to make a good old-fashioned s'more.

Kristina Herrera, the Administrator of Dyer Nursing & Rehabilitation and Sheffield Manor, is both the host and organizer of the event.

"The staff and residents can see what they've done for one another and how they can help each other. It's crucial for us to work together to identify the needs of the community and what people need to do to make it happen for each resident," Herrera said.

"We work with a diverse population, the elderly are really the people at risk and need the people in our community to rally together to make things happen for them. Our worlds get smaller as we get older and those people around us continue to disappear, so we need the community to come together and help with our elderly." Herrera added.
