Munster Med-Inn, Sebo’s Nursing Rehabilitation Center, & Spring Mill Health Campus Add Additional Flare to the 2017 Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Sunday proved to be a successful and hopeful day as families, groups, and businesses gathered together for the 2017 Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Crown Point. The annual walk, which includes nationwide participation on various dates, is the world's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research.

For Munster Med-Inn, Spring Mill Health Campus, and Sebo’s Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, the walk hits close to home as many residents of these facilities benefit from the research and advances that are made through these fundraising and awareness efforts. Sunday’s walk, with these facilities and many others in attendance, turned the Lake County Fairgrounds into a sea of purple as teams gathered to walk and pledge funds to the cause.

“Sebo’s, Spring Mill, and Munster Med-Inn teams had a great day walking together to end Alzheimer’s,” said Kelly Petty, who serves as the Regional Director of Business Development for the facilities. "All of our buildings care for patients with Alzheimer's and dementia and offer specialized memory support programming. We also have taken the next step in implementing some of the latest technology and advancements in dementia care."

Munster Med-Inn, Spring Mill, and Sebo’s were exceptionally prepared and excited for the event as they had preemptively had residents paint rocks purple and scattered them about the grounds. For each rock returned to one of the facilities, they pledged to donate $5 to the cause.

“Kids and parents everywhere were finding rocks at the walk. We awarded the top scavenger of finding our rocks with gift cards,” said Petty.

Rewarding those who found hidden rocks was a wonderful way to increase participation. In the end, donations from the event have added up, with these facilities contributing a portion of the more than $108,000 that have been raised toward Alzheimer’s care and research. According to the event website, over 104 teams and 586 people participated, allowing great strides to be made in fundraising and creating awareness for the disease. Munster Med-Inn was essential in contributing and even won an award for their dedication.

“The Corporate Team Award was awarded to Team Munster Med-Inn for raising a grand total of $3,500 towards the cause,” explained Petty.

Aside from raising money, the event is about awareness. With over 5 million Americans living with the disease and nearly 15.9 million caregivers for people with Alzheimer’s and other dementia related diseases, these funds go toward solving a very personal and devastating problem for many.

"All of our locations will continue to fully support organizations such as the Alzheimer's Association. We feel as though strong relationships with our local communities unites us all together, bringing together the possibilities for advancements in finding a cure," said Petty.

Munster Med-Inn, Spring Mill Health Campus, and Sebo’s Nursing & Rehabilitation Center gladly participated in this year’s event, throwing their passion for helping others into the cause. With matching shirts, some purple accessories, and a positive attitude, these facilities were able to work alongside many others in the community to raise awareness and positively benefit those with Alzheimer’s.
