Plenty to do at Bickford of Crown Point!

rot14At Bickford Assisted Living and Memory Care in Crown Point, there is never a shortage of things for the residents to do. It’s important for a person to stay mentally, physically, emotionally, and intellectually engaged throughout his or her life in order to get the most from it, and the Bickford family understands this. Their motto is “Enriching Happiness”, after all.

Slavica Schieb, the Life Enrichment Coordinator at Bickford of Crown Point plans most of the events for the residents. She and the staff at Bickford do their best to provide a myriad of activities to fit all of the residents’ lifestyles.

“I try little bits of everything. I try to throw in new activities to change things up,” Schieb said. “Our main goal is to enrich happiness and when we do these things for them it does. We’re here for the residents and we’ll do whatever it takes to make it happen for them.”

Lots of great activities are available for the residents on a daily basis including social engagements, outings, physical fitness activities, spiritual activities, arts and crafts, and more.

“We’ll have bingo, bunco, dominos, happy hours, parties, musical entertainment, sing-alongs, a singing club, and themed days with activities that fit them. We are luck y to have had great entertainers come to Bickford. They really interact with the residents and make them feel special. It’s really enriching their happiness,” Schieb said.

For the outings there is a lot to do in Lake County so the residents have many choices from a trip to the apple orchard or park to lunch outings to running errands. These events get them out and about and promote independence.

And residents can show off their creative sides with neat crafts and classes. Water colors, cooking classes, crocheting, greeting cards, and more are all available for the residents.

“We have one volunteer who worked at a greeting card company and she brings in her supplies so residents can make greeting cards that they send to their families,” Schieb said.

People from all walks of life call Bickford of Crown Point home. Those with religious beliefs are able to practice with things like communion, nondenominational bible studies, and worship services.

“If there is a religion that we aren’t covering we’ll do our best to get that taken care of,” Schieb said.

And to stay active Bickford has Silver Sneakers classes five days a week as well as other activities that that residents want to do.

“The residents will suggest activities that they want to do,” Schieb said. “I use what our residents like at this time to create my calendar for them. It’s different every month.”
