patient-choice-kaitlin-fitzmauricePorter Regional Hospital once again sought to honor one of its nurses through its annual Patient Choice Award program. The prestigious award recognizes the level of quality care, comfort and compassion offered by nurses each day.

This year, Porter is pleased to announce that Medical Care Unit Nurse Kaitlin (nee Sisk) Fitzmaurice has been named the 2014 Patient Choice Award winner. Fitzmaurice was recognized with a cash prize and reception (pictured above).

Fitzmaurice began her career at Porter in January 2014, having previously served as a nurse at St. Anthony’s Health System in Crown Point. As a newer associate, she was very surprised to be this year’s recipient. “I feel like there are many other great nurses here that deserve this award,” Fitzmaurice shared. “Being this year’s winner is an honor. It’s nice to know people pay attention to what you are doing.”

Patient Choice Award winners are selected after a careful review of hundreds of nominations sent each year from former patients and family members who want to nominate an exceptional nurse who directly impacted their lives with outstanding care. “[Kaitlin] did everything in her power to treat me with respect and help me maintain my dignity while in her care, and she worked very hard to meet my every need,” wrote the patient who nominated Fitzmaurice. “She is a woman of greatness and needs and deserves to be recognized for this…Her bedside [manner] is phenomenal and she ensured my stay was comfortable. She left such an impression on me that she has inspired me to go back to college and finish what I started several years ago.”
