Porter Health Care System Opened Second Occupational and Corporate Health Services Clinic on November 17

Porter-Regional-Hospital-SignPorter Health Care System opened its second corporate occupational and wellness clinic on Monday, Nov. 17. in its Portage Hospital located at 3630 Willowcreek Road. The first clinic, which opened in September 2013, is located at 809 LaPorte Ave. in Valparaiso. Porter's Health At Work clinic offers medical services for employees who have suffered an illness or injury on the job, as well as for employers who are seeking to improve the overall health of their organizations.

"At Porter's Health At Work clinic, our ultimate goal is to raise awareness of the benefits of good health and see a positive return on investment. This begins with the development of an employee wellness program to raise awareness so employees with fewer risk factors remain healthy; then by encouraging employees with more health risk factors to make lifestyle changes, seek help for emotional and physical health issues, and improve their quality of life," explained Laurie Wehner-Evans, Porter's director of Community and Corporate Wellness. "The payoff in dollars, as well as in quality of life, can have a big impact on a company's bottom line."

According to Wehner-Evans, the new Portage clinic is opening in response to employers' desire for a Portage location and will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The new clinic will provide the daily clinical and medical services to its corporate clients such as pre-employment screens, annual physicals and drug screens.

In addition, Porter's Health At Work clinics offer:

  • Occupational health services
  • Worker's compensation services
  • Preventive health and wellness services
  • On-site health fairs, including flu vaccinations and drug screenings

Both the Valparaiso and Portage Porter Health At Work clinics offer Service Coordination 24/7 to assist employers, employees, providers, patients, and payers in any service they may need. These services can include scheduling medical appointments, finding a primary care physician and more.

"When an individual has a primary care physician, he/she can trust that their wellness plans and their acute or chronic medical care will be managed in an effective, efficient and comprehensive manner," explained Wehner-Evans. "Porter Regional Hospital's Health At Work differentiates itself from traditional occupational health programs by connecting employees with a primary care physician – as healthy employees are essential to the productivity of any organization."

To ensure 24-hour (24/7) medical coverage, clinical services after 4 p.m. will be available at Porter Health Care System's three CareEXPRESS locations in Valparaiso, Portage and Chesterton, and at the two hospital campuses – Porter Regional Hospital and Portage Hospital.
