Porter Regional Hospital Presents 2014 Cancer Awareness & Prevention Day at Valparaiso Medical Center

Porter-New-Hospital-Coming-SoonPorter Regional Hospital will present Cancer Awareness & Prevention Day to the community from 7 a.m. to Noon on Saturday, May 3 at Valparaiso Medical Center located at the corner of Roosevelt and Glendale in Valparaiso. The event will feature screenings, a warm brunch and spa services by Serenity Salon & Spa.

The goal of the event is to increase awareness and educate our community that when it comes to cancer, early detection is they key. According to the American Cancer Society, screening increases the chances of detecting certain cancers early, when they are most likely to be curable.

Screenings provided include:

Mammograms
A mammogram is the best tool doctors have to find breast cancer early. For this screening, females must be age 40 and older and know the date of your last mammogram. (Your insurance will be charged and insurance only covers one mammogram per year.)

CT Lung Cancer screenings
If you are 55 or older and a current or former smoker, you may qualify for a lung cancer screening. To learn more or determine if you are eligible, visit porterhealth.com/lungscreening. Cost of screening $75 (required at time of service).

Registration is required for all screenings. To learn more and schedule your screenings at Valparaiso Medical Center, call 219-983-8399.
