#1StudentNWI: Lake Central Heads Into April Perfectly

As the weather starts to get warmer and spring comes into full bloom, Lake Central students are looking to end the season strong. Although most students are thinking about how close summer break is, there’s still plenty to be excited about at LC.

The baseball team headed into the season ranked one of the top three teams in Indiana and some polls even had them ranked as a top 15 team in the nation. With such high expectations, many teams can be flustered and fall to the pressure; however, that was not the case for the Indians in their season-opener. Senior Butler-commit Joseph Graziano took the rubber on Tuesday, March 28, when pitched seven innings and forced an out on all 21 Bishop Noll batters that he faced. The strong play by Graziano, who is just one member of a potent pitching staff, led the Indians to a 5-0 victory. The Indians now have the opening day jitters gone and are ready for the road ahead of them. That road contains many tough non-conference and conference opponents before heading to Munter in late May for Sectionals.

Lake-Central-1Student-2017_02 For seniors, the period of school between spring break and graduation is usually the toughest thanks to “senioritis.” Despite that, there is a lot for seniors to experience even before they graduate. On Friday, April 21, seniors are invited to Villa Cesare for the annual senior banquet. Students who attend are offered a buffet but following that it is nothing like a usual banquet. During the night senior superlatives awards will be handed out which is then followed by music and lots of dancing. Most interestingly, however, is that the event now has a tradition: a costume party rather than a formal banquet. This takes away from the pressure of finding a date or other problems that most dances such as prom produce. It is simply a night for seniors to go out as a class together and to just focus on having fun.

Lake-Central-1Student-2017_03 Along with the senior banquet, seniors that meet certain requirements are also invited to an honors breakfast in which students are recognized for their great work at Lake Central. Additionally, scholarships they have received from their respective colleges and universities will be presented. Prom and commencement, of course, are just more for the senior class of 2017 to look forward to.

While the school year closes out and most scheduling for the next school year is already completed, many students look forward to the many exciting courses that are returning for next year. During the 2016-17 school year, a sports medicine class was available to students for the first time and thanks to its success it will be returning next year. The course is taught by athletic trainer Chris Hull. Another first-year class that will be returning is the Public Relations internship.

Lake-Central-1Student-2017_04 While many Chicago-area fans get set for the NHL and NBA playoffs, the excitement of Opening Day in the MLB is very evident, especially at Lake Central. Many teachers having their flags and posters from the White Sox or Cubs hanging up in their rooms, although for Cubs fans most of the decorations have not been taken down since November. Many students could have been seen walking through the halls wearing their respective team’s gear as well as posting numerous tweets about their excitement.

From national events such as Opening Day to local school events such as senior banquet, students at Lake Central are getting more excitement each day as they inch closer to these events.

Although summer break is just around the corner, it is events such as prom and commencement that keep students looking forward to waking up each morning knowing they are a day closer to another fun event. As always, updates and pictures on these events can be accessed through the Lake Central News social media sites as well as the Lake Central School Corporation website.
