A Northwest Indiana Life in the Spotlight: Russell W. Brown Jr.

On our television sets we watch in awe as fictional lawyers like Annalise Keating, Saul Goodman, and Atticus Finch fight tooth and nail for their clients.

In a world where our justice system sometimes fails us, we are quite fortunate to have real-life lawyers who go to bat for their clients with the same professionalism and passion. Russell W. Brown Jr. is one of these hard-working lawyers and the region is lucky to have him represent us.

“There is quite a bit of wrongfully sentenced individuals that need help,” expressed Brown Jr.

Brown Jr. is a partner at King, Brown & Murdaugh, located in Merriville. He focuses on criminal defense and personal injury.

“I made partner a couple months ago and am thankful to be working with this amazing team,” shared Brown Jr.

Brown Jr. graduated undergrad from Indiana University Bloomington in 2007 where he received his B.S. in Sports Marketing and Management with a Business Minor. He then attended Valparaiso University School of Law and obtained his Juris Doctor Degree in 2010, graduating magna cum laude. A year later he was able to start his passion.

“In 2011, I became a law clerk for Woodward, Buls, Blaskovich & King,” stated Brown Jr. “I also had the opportunity to serve as a Teaching Assistant for the Legal Writing Department.”

Brown Jr. expressed that he learned that it was important to remain humble as he was learning and growing within his field.

“Never get ahead of yourself and believe that you are better or above anyone,” shared Brown Jr. “You have a purpose and that is to serve and represent those that need your help.”

Besides defending his clients, Brown Jr. also raises money for “Russ Runs 4 Recovery” in his spare time.

“I am currently training and preparing to run in the 2018 Chicago Marathon and my campaign ‘Russ Runs 4 Recovery’ is to raise awareness and money for Frontline Foundations,” expressed Brown Jr. “Frontline Foundations is a substance-abuse treatment center and what they do for our community is important.”

In Brown Jr.’s campaign video for his fundraiser, he shared that the Porter County coroner projected that overdose related deaths are expected to rise this year by over fifty percent.

“This is a plague that is effecting communities and taking the lives of our youth – this is not fake news,” Brown Jr. voiced in his video.

Brown Jr. is slated to lace up his sneakers to run through 29 neighborhoods spanning about 26.2 miles, later this year on October 7. He has also provided an opportunity to watch him train and track his progress on his Instagram page.

Frontline Foundations Inc. has two offices in Chesterton and LaPorte that serve the men and women of Northwest Indiana. For more information about Frontline Foundation and Brown Jr. fundraiser here.
