Born and raised in Northwest Indiana, Ron Donahue has always been dedicated to offering the absolute best service that he can to his community, whether through his job with Prompt Ambulance or through his volunteer work.
Since 2001, Donahue has dedicated himself to Prompt Ambulance and worked his way up the ladder, now serving as Director of Business Development. In this role, Donahue serves as the liaison between field operations and the patients in their care. Having previously worked as both an EMT and a dispatcher, Donahue puts his past work experience to good use when it comes to seeing both the EMTs' and patients' sides so that he can make sure the patients are getting the best care that Prompt Ambulance can offer. Most recently, Donahue and his co-workers have developed a patient care survey from which they can collect data, which can be broken down to specific Prompt Ambulance workers.
"It's really an incredible thing to be able to do this for not only our employees, but our patients as well," Donahue said. "So, each individual on each ambulance call will be able to receive specific feedback for their work – their appearance, mannerisms, professionalism, etc."
Donahue has also had the pleasure of being a part of another new tactic used to improve patient car and response times - the use of high tech computer systems. These computers constantly look at the previous call data and figure out where the calls are most likely to come from at different time during any given day. Donahue and his coworkers strive to be the leaders in their industry, looking at and taking into account all of the factors that make up patient care.
"We have an overall mission to be the leader in the industry, and do everything we can to improve the experiences and care of our patients," Donahue said.
Donahue and his team work very closely with the Porter County Triad to host different events in the community and raise money for various organizations. One organization that Donahue takes great joy in helping is Honor Flight Chicago, which is an organization founded to recognize Chicagoland's World War II veterans by flying them all-expense-paid to Washington DC for a day of honor, remembrance and celebration. Also through Prompt Ambulance, Donahue and his team were able to secure funding and work with Habitat for Humanity to go out and build wheelchair ramps at houses that needed them. Donahue also volunteers on many organizations' boards, including Continuity of Care, Porter County Triad, Rotary Club, and Meals on Wheels for Lake and Porter Counties.
"I'm just trying to help people and organizations by doing things that are a little more different and creative, the same kind of connections and creativity that I bring to Prompt Ambulance, to further their missions and visions," Donahue said.
In his spare time, Donahue enjoys spending time with his family.
"I have a four year old, a three year old, and a nine month old that take up the rest of my time, but I wouldn't have it any other way," he said.
