Summer is officially here this weekend and we've got some great summer activities from a strawberry festival, adventuring with dinosaurs in the new Jurassic Park, Naturepalooza, and much more! Check out our 10 fun things to do in Northwest Indiana this weekend!

June 23: Naturepalooza - Living with Lakes Seminar - Valparaiso
A meeting of Northwest Indiana conservationists and interested visitors. This "Living with Lakes" seminar gives everyone an opportunity to hear local specialists speak and visit them at exhibitor tables for Q&A. Potluck picnic, canoes, guided hike, archery, children's activities and more! This is a free, family-friendly gathering! 

June 22: Purdue University Northwest SlamCamp 2018 - Westville
Purdue University Northwest (PNW) and the Michigan City Public Library are co-sponsoring the seventh annual SlamCamp for middle-school students, challenging them to explore their creativity Monday through Friday, June 18-22 at the Library, 100 East 4th Street. The camp provides a full week of writing, art, theater performances, games and fun for students entering grades six through nine in fall 2018!

June 22: Learn About Canada at the Valpo International Center’s “Fourth Friday” - Valparaiso
James Wetzstein, University Pastor at Valparaiso University, is the featured speaker this month. He will talk about Canada’s ethnic diversity and its relationship to its neighbor to the south. Jim will also share the history of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as a way of understanding Canadians’ relationship to their wilderness!

June 22-24: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom at the Portage 16 IMAX + GDX - Portage
When the island's dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event, come to the Portage IMAX and experience the movie in full-force! 

June 23: Portage Community Historical Society Summer Festival - Portage
The Portage Community Historical Society is hosting a Summer Festival complete with a kid's watermelon eating contest, carnival games, root beer floats and more! 

June 23: La Porte Hosts Housing Fair - La Porte
The City of La Porte, Indiana is sponsoring a Housing Fair from 9 AM to 3 PM Saturday, June 23, at the La Porte Civic Auditorium, Ridge St., La Porte. The Housing Fair will provide an opportunity for both first-time home buyers and experienced home owners to get information important to buying and maintaining a home. The Housing Fair will include an exhibition area for exhibitors, and seminars.

June 23: Schererville Parks Strawberry Fest Excursion - Crown Point
This family-oriented festival is a favorite of many, enjoy live music, browse and purchase original artwork from hundreds of artists, and enjoy some of the most decadent homegrown strawberries in the area!

June 23: Climb Out of the Darkness - Highland
Join Climb Out of the Darkness on June 23rd at 10AM! Wicker Park, Picnic Area 1 in Highland, IN. 1.5 mile walk, food and fun! Swag bags for the first 50 attendees! Climb Out of the Darkness is committed to bringing people together to raise awareness of Postpartum Depression and other Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders. They promote education, prevention and treatment of mental health issues related to childbearing in every country worldwide. They support moms, dads, families, community programs and healthcare providers.

June 23: Community Healthcare System: Teen Childbirth Class – Munster
Teen Childbirth Preparation class teaches expectant mothers between the ages of 13 and 19 about labor and delivery, nutrition, pain relief, recovery and resources for support. The classes will be held on June 23 from 12:00-4:00 p.m. at 800 MacArthur Blvd, Suite 30, Munster, Ind.

June 23: Teen Movie: A Wrinkle In Time at the Baugher Center - Chesterton
Westchester Public Library presents the film A Wrinkle In Time on Saturday, June 23, at 3:00 p.m., in the Baugher Center, 100 W. Indiana Avenue, Chesterton. No registration is necessary, and attendance is free of charge. Enjoy complimentary popcorn while watching the movie.
