10 Fun Things to Do in NWI for June 8 – 10, 2018

It's June and what better way to glide into Summer than with some fun-filled events in Northwest Indiana? This weekend will feature a Chalk Walk, concerts, art, markets, hikes, bikes, and much more!

June 8: Portage Market on the Square - Portage
There will be over 20 vendors selling unique crafts, fresh produce, honey, flowers, breads and jams. Plus local food trucks/vendors selling food. Bands from the region will begin at 6. Then to top off the evening we will have a family movie at dusk in the Indiana American Water Amphitheater. It’s going to be a fun family evening at the square!

June 8: Relay For Life of Portage - Portage
The American Cancer Society Team fundraising event celebrating Cancer Survivors features an opening ceremony which starts at 6pm with the Survivor lap and the free Survivor dinner immediately after. Teams walk around the track showing support for those survivors and there will be lots of activities, theme laps, food truck, and more! 

June 8: La Porte County Family YMCA Healthy Kids Day/Enchanted Trail - La Porte
This free event will take place outside our La Porte Branch of the La Porte County Family YMCA from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Families can participate in all of the Fitness Friday 5K run/walk, or enjoy a variety of other fun activities. Every child who participates in the 5K will receive a participant ribbon and an entry into our raffle. Healthy snacks will also be provided.

June 8-9: Zao Island 2018 Summer Concert Series - Valparaiso
Come to Zao Island this summer to see some of the best local musicians! This weekend features Steve Ball & Rocco as well as Reggae Express! 

June 9: 6th Annual Chalk the Walk - Valparaiso
Chalk the Walk is a fun family event with chalk art being created on the sidewalks surrounding the Porter County Courthouse Square and a variety of kids activities occurring throughout the morning. Businesses can sponsor a 3x3 square to showcase their business in a unique way.

June 10: Canvas & Compassion Fundraiser: Afternoon Tea & Painting Event With Grain of Rice Project - Valparaiso
Grain of Rice Project is a Fair Trade, Nonprofit Organization that empower artisans in Kenya as well as provide schooling for Kenyan children by the sale of their fair trade and eco-friendly products. Want to help support Grain of Rice Project and have a fun afternoon out with friends? Come to our tea party in Valparaiso on June 10, 2018 at the Valparaiso Women's Club at 102 S. June 9: General Insurance Services Family Safety Day - La Porte
Join General Insurance Services and the Center Township Fire Rescue for a Family Safety Day! Food & Fun for the whole family! The event will feature: Touch a Fire Truck, Make a First Aid Kit, Car Seat Installation Checks, Meet Sparky, the Robotic Fire Dog, Fire Extinguisher Demonstrations, LifeFlight Helicopter Landing (pending weather), La Porte County Sheriff's Dept K9 Demonstrations, La Porte County EMS Display, Children's Activities & Safety Stations!

June 9: National Get Outdoors Day - Hobart
Get out. Go play. Explore! It's National Get Outdoors Day and there's no better way to spend it than getting outdoors! Join the Parks as you explore the woods at Deep River with a guided hike, and stick around for fun around the campfire. Please bring a flashlight, and meet in the parking lot behind the Mill and Visitors Center.

June 10: Spinning Spokes, Feeding Folks – Bicycle Event for Meals on Wheels - Schererville
Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana is pleased to announce their Bicycle Event: Spinning Spokes, Feeding Folks! The ride will be held on Sunday, June 10th, kicking off at the Trek Bicycle Store in Schererville. Marty Semrau, an Ambassador and Mentor of the Joyriders at the Trek Store in Schererville stated, “This is a great event with 12-mile and 28-mile trail rides and 25-, 40-, and 62-mile road rides for more experienced riders.”
