10 Fun Things to Do This Weekend in Northwest Indiana August 18 – 20, 2017

And…. Summer is over. We had a great time, did you? Even though, our school bags are packed, you do not need to put those bathing suits away just yet! Enjoy some more summer events and head out to Hobart for the city’s annual Lakefront Festival! Enjoy some craft beer and delicious wine at the Michigan City and Highland beer fests, and don’t forget to take a bit of some great BBQ at Marram Health Center!

For more of an active weekend, there is a nightly bike ride and an inflatable obstacle course that trust me, you won’t want to miss! Then, relax with the arts. The Lubeznik Center is hosting their eye-opening, beautiful art festival and then you can take a sneak at the Chicago Street Theater’s 63rd season! What an amazing way to end the summer days! Hobart Lakefront Festival
Head out to the 26th annual festival in Hobart where you will enjoy an entire weekend of Hobart fun! There will be live entertainment throughout the weekend and a whole list of activities. One big, exciting activity is the annual Dam Duck Tape and Carboard Regatta on Saturday!

Chicago Street Theater Preview Party
The Chicago Street Theater is hosting a fun season 63 preview party! Get a sneak peek of the new upcoming season. If you're intrigued by the play titles, but want to know more, this is the perfect opportunity for a sample of what's to come, and we hope to whet your appetite for more! Speaking of appetite... it's a party so there will be complimentary appetizers to sample from this year's Dining Partners, sweets and beverages (cash bar by Pikk's). Space is limited so reserve now to help Chicago Street Theatre celebrate 20 years as "Your Neighborhood Place for Plays!"

La Porte Parks Night Ride
The last La Porte City Parks and Recreation Night Bike Ride is this Friday night. Enjoy the summer night during a leisurely 13-mile starlit night. This is not a race, but a chance to ride through the city with friends and family. The event includes a t-shirt and snacks! Register beforehand!

Lubeznik Art and Artisan Festival
This weekend, the Lubeznik Art & Artisan Festival (LAAF) will feature the best contemporary art galleries, artists, and artisans from the region, plus an exciting music lineup, food and art happenings all weekend long! The 36-year-old festival will take all of the proceeds and invest back into the Michigan City community!

Marram Health Center Backyard Community BBQ
Marram Health Center is hosting their backyard community BBQ on Saturday to bring together community members, partners, elected officials, and more! The event will feature information about the health center and dental services, while providing free food and activities for all ages.

Schererville Parks’ Touch-a-Truck
The Schererville Parks and Recreation Department will host its annual Touch-A-Truck event at Redar Park. At this year’s Touch-A-Truck, there will be fire trucks, police cars, tractors, and many other types of “big” trucks. Children will have the opportunity to touch, see inside, and maybe even climb through or honk the horn of some of these trucks.

4th Annual Pints in the Park Craft Beer Fest in Highland
This festival will feature unlimited samplings of over 150 craft beers from about 40 different local and national breweries. Plus, there will be live music and food from various food trucks will be available for purchase.

Bacchus and Beer Festival in the Gardens in Michigan City
Join the community at the Friendship Botanic Gardens where you can sample from 15 of the area’s local breweries and wineries. Up ‘N Smoke will be on site to serve up their famous BBQ, plus live entertainment from Matt Gabriel and John Vermilye will keep you having fun all night long!

Jacob's Ladder at the Giving Games Inflatable Fun Run
Jacob’s Ladder has been invited to participate in a very special community event that has the potential to raise a lot of money towards our mission of Giving Hope to Families of Special Children! This event is an inflatable obstacle course for young runners up to age 18. Each runner can raise money to donate to their favorite charity!

Portage Township Live Entertainment Presents Metro Star Orchestra
Head out on Sunday to listen to the blend of orchestra tunes from the Metro Star Orchestra. Metro Star Orchestra (MSO) is known as “The Little Big Band” because their six-piece band sounds like a full 18-piece orchestra! Similar in sound to the Count Basie, Nelson Riddle, and Michael Buble orchestras, MSO's impressive repertoire includes a variety of music, including Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, Elvis, Neil Diamond, Chicago, Tom Jones, Rock & Roll, Country, Disco, and many popular shows.
