Portage Parks to Host Mother & Son, Dinner and a Movie Night 
Enjoy a pre-Mother's Day date with your favorite little man! We have reserved an entire theater at the Portage 16 IMAX for the opening day of The Avengers: Age of Ultron! Only 270 tickets will be sold. The cost is $25 for Mom and $15 for each son, and it includes movie admission, dinner, refillable drink, and a 5x7 memoir photo (one per family/additional photos are also available for purchase). Cappos Pizza will be catering this event.

LCA May First Friday: Opening Reception & Live Performance Art 
Lubeznik Center for the Arts will hold the opening reception for Looking Glass: Exploring Self Portraiture and Taehoon Kim: Poem of a Boy Who Stopped Growing during the First Friday art walk. Experience live performance art by José Santiago Pérez and Udita Upadhyaya throughout the evening. Meet exhibiting artists and enjoy light bites provided by Shoreline Brewery. Refreshments are available for a nominal fee. Admission is free.

Chicago Street Theatre to Present "A Little Bit Not Normal" in May 2015 
Written and performed by Arlene Malinowski Developed and directed by Will Rogers Co-produced with Mental Health America of Porter County Half of all proceeds will benefit MHA. 3 Shows Only! Friday, May 1 at 8pm; Saturday, May 2 at 8pm; Sunday, May 3 at 2:30pm. The autobiographical solo show “A Little Bit Not Normal” revolves around a secret that was discovered at a family wedding and had been kept for over six decades.

Opening Saturday, May 2nd, The Michigan City Farmers’ Market in the Heart of the UAD! 
The Michigan City Farmers’ Market will kick off its 23rd season on Saturday, May 2nd from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the corner of 8th & Washington Streets in Michigan City. The market offers a delightful assortment of seasonal produce, flowers, breads, cheeses, and meats along with prepared foods from local bakeries and restaurants. The market promotes the local food movement, as we focus on healthy food options and natural products.

South Haven Jr. Volunteer Fire Fighters Host Alarm Chili Cook-off 
The South Haven Jr. Volunteer Fire Fighters are hosting an Alarm Chili Cook-off on Saturday, May 2nd in the community room at the South Haven Volunteer Fire Department (398 W. 700 N. Valparaiso, IN 46385) from 4-8p. The purpose of the event is to raise money for the South Haven Jr. Firefighter’s Relay For Life team in Portage. The community is invited to participate in the event in any one of a number of ways including coming out for tastings. The Jr. Firefighters will be selling hotdogs, chips, baked goods and drinks. There is no fee to enter your favorite pot of chili in the contest.

Hammond Celebrates its 11th Annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta 
Hammond's 11th annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta, sponsored by Mayor Thomas M. McDermott Jr., the Hammond Parks Department and Pepsi Beverage Company, will be held on Saturday, May 2 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Hammond Civic Center, 5825 S. Sohl Avenue. Entertainment will be provided by Ballet Folklorico Yolotzin, Mariachi Imperial Azteca and the band Together. Tickets are only $15, which includes an evening of entertainment and a full plate of authentic Mexican food.

Michigan City Lions Club to host Annual Breakfast 
Michigan City Lions Club President Don Glossinger, announces the club will be holding it's annual fund raising Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, May 3, 2015, from 8 am to 1 pm. The event will be held at the Michigan City Senior Center at Washington Park, where the view of Lake Michigan is fabulous!. Tickets are $7.00 for Adults, $4.00 for Children ages 4 to 10 and free for Children under 4. Lions will be serving: pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, milk, chocolate milk, orange juice and coffee. Tickets may be purchased at the door or from any local Lions Club member.

VNA Stroll for Hospice to Stroll Downtown Valpo 
Enjoy a day in the park with family and friends as we "Stroll for Hospice" in memory of loved ones and help the VNA continue to provide compassionate care for patients and their families. After your Stroll, we'll have tented seating or bring your picnic blanket. There will be hotdogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers along with other picnic fare. And, enjoy Culver's Frozen yogurt for dessert! The Hospice Choir and a DJ will keep things moving while you enjoy family activities including a bounce house, photo booth, face painting, crafts, games, raffle baskets and more!
