Lake Central High School Winter Band Concert Ushers in Holiday Cheer

Lake Central High School hosted its annual Winter Band Concert in its auditorium Tuesday evening to a great crowd of friends and family. Proud parents were already lining up outside of the auditorium before doors even opened, and soon enough, seats were taken and the room was filled with family and friends.

Mother Cindy Ring was sure to get a spot near the front to watch her two sons, senior Brian and sophomore Mark, who have been playing in band since the 6th grade. Attending every one of her sons’ concerts since the beginning, Ring points out how positive band has been in their lives.

"It gives them good work ethic,” Ring expressed. “They strive to be better every day, they perform their best, and I think those are all really characteristics to carry on in their futures ahead of them."

Parents of band members talked about how dedicated their children were when it came to their music.

As Ring said, "They put everything they have into it. It's like a sport."

Along with the hard work and success of band students, parents feel that their children in band have bonded as close as family. Laurie West, whose daughter plays in both concert and marching band was told in the beginning how the band would end up being a family and to her delight, it was true.

"It made me very happy,” West said on the band’s family influence. “It really was a family atmosphere. The kids got along and it was so positive."

Some band members have even been together since 6th grade, like juniors Victoria and Lauren. They said the people and music are more than enough for them to continue performing until graduation.

"I just enjoy playing the music and the energy that comes with it," remarked Victoria.

Band students got to enjoy each of the other bands' performances before going on stage to perform themselves. Bands that performed at the concert were freshman band, symphonic band, concert band, and wind ensemble.

When it comes to holiday spirit, Lake Central’s Winter Band concert had it in spades. With music flowing through the auditorium making everyone’s spirit bright, it wasn’t hard to see just how hard each student has worked to excel in what is certainly one of high school’s most popular extracurricular activities.
