Boyz II Men Concert Kicks of a Fun-Filled 2016 Festival of the Lakes

Wednesday, July 20th kicked off Hammond’s annual Festival of the Lakes with a free concert headlined by Boyz II Men. Hosted at the Pavilion at Wolf Lake, the festival is a much anticipated event for the region.

“I hear from so many people that say they don’t plan vacations during Festival of the Lakes week,” said Hammond Mayor, Thomas McDermott Jr., “You can come out and watch these bands for free and they are top quality.”

Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris, and Shawn Stockman, better known as Boyz II Men, certainly delivered that top quality the mayor spoke of. In addition to performing the hits that made them famous in the 90’s the trio sang medleys covering everything from Ed Sheeran to Nirvana.

Boyz II Men came out on stage as the sun was setting. It was humid and muggy, but the lawn was filled with excited fans, including Glen Kimble from Gary.

“I’m screaming louder than the girls,” Kimbel said, “If they sing Motown Philly I’m going to lose my mind!”

They sang it twice.

And Boyz II Men were just beginning. Festival of the Lakes continues through Sunday with an incredible lineup of free concerts. Thursday night brings Eli Young Band followed by George Thorogood & The Destroyers on Friday.

“I’ve been trying to get Thorogood here for three years,” McDermott said, “I’m excited to see them.”

Ludacris takes the stage on Saturday and the fest wraps up with Banda El Ricodo De Cruz Lizarraga on Sunday.

In addition to the impressive musical acts, Festival of the Lakes brings in carnival rides, games, and delicious fair-style food. There is also the Kathleen Pucalik Memorial 5K Run/Walk/Splash, pontoon rides, and a Polka Party.
