ROSE Award Video Honored During 2014 Summit

lakemichiganWhat makes a destination unforgettable? This was the topic of a video challenge taken on by the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority during the annual Simpleview Summit, hosted in Tucson, AZ.

Simpleview, a company that assists destination marketing organizations with interactive marketing, gave DMOs the chance to enter a new video in the Tourism Together video contest. The contest asked DMOs to showcase people in their destination that create great visitor experiences and what it means to their community.

The South Shore CVA’s submission, entitled “Stories,” highlighted two stories from the annual R.O.S.E Awards program. R.O.S.E. stands for Recognition of Service Excellence. The awards program honors front-line employees in service-related businesses that positively impact a visitor’s stay along the South Shore. Each year, 12 winners are selected from more than 100 nominations received throughout the year.

Speros A. Batistatos, president and CEO of the South Shore CVA, said the video captures the level of service that can be expected when staying along the South Shore.

“The hospitality industry along the South Shore understands the importance of providing exceptional guest service to visitors,” said Batistatos. “When guests have great experiences, they want to return to that destination, they tell their family and friends about the experience.”

Simpleview selected the South Shore CVA’s submission as the third place winner and awarded them a GoPro Hero 3+. According to Andy Collins, video production manager for the South Shore CVA, the prize will provide the South Shore CVA with a unique way of capturing the South Shore.

“The GoPro will shoot video from a first-hand perspective, changing the narrative of the story,” said Collins. Collins said that when the narrative changes in a video, it can change people’s perception.

“The footage becomes more realistic, and viewers are immersed in the story,” he explained.
