Join the Towle Theater for its 12th Season

Towle-TheaterThe Towle Theater is excited to announce its 12th season. The season opens with the one-woman comedy Shirley Valentine staring Suzanne Nyhan. Patrons may remember Suzanne from her stirring performance as Elizabeth Hardy in Good Boys and True. Shirley Valentine is a middle-aged, working class Liverpool housewife. Feeling stagnant and in a rut, Shirley finds herself regularly talking to the wall while preparing her husband's chips and egg. When she goes on holiday to Greece, she finds romance and a new awareness of who she is and what her existence can be with just a little effort on her part. A movie based on the play was released in 1989 staring Pauline Collins. Shirley Valentine runs February 27-March 15, 2015.

The second show of the season is the Indiana Premiere of the musical Next Thing You Know. This Musical looks at a time in life where one day you wake up, and instead of a hangover, you have a job. Instead of a fling, you have a live-in girlfriend. And instead of naïve dreams, you have reality. Theatermania describes the show as "Life is like a bartender - it'll only give you so many shots”. "Next Thing You Know is the story of four New Yorkers as they laugh, love and drink their way through the big questions that face all young dreamers who wake up in the city that never sleeps. Does marrying a really nice guy mean you're settling down or just settling? Does taking a nine-to-five equal giving up or growing up? Does a decade in the city break you down or break you in? Next Thing You Know runs May 1-17, 2015

The Towle’s summer musical is the Indiana Premiere of The Burnt Part Boys. It is an Appalachian-folk styled musical. Think Stand by Me meets Floyd Collins. Locally named The Burnt Part, the Pickaway Coal Company's South Mountain closed down after an accident in 1952 that resulted in the death of four miners, three of which left behind children. Ten years later, Jake Twitchell is doing the same job that took his own father's life and the Pickaway Coal Company is going to send him to begin re-mining The Burnt Part. His younger brother Pete sets out to render the Burnt Part useless. Dangerous and heart-warming discoveries comprise every theatrical layer of this coming-of-age adventure on the road to the mine. The Burnt Part Boys performs July 10-26, 2015.

The season closes with Perfect Wedding, a British Farce/Romantic Comedy. This Midwest Premiere is has an appalling situation; a bridegroom wakes on his wedding day in his own bridal suite, and finds a strange girl in bed beside him. What's more, an extremely attractive girl whom, in the depths of his post stag-night hangover, he can't remotely remember. Worse - during the ensuing panic to get the stranger dressed and out of the way, the bride arrives and the girl is trapped in the bathroom. The only way out of the dilemma is to persuade the best man to pretend that the hidden girl is his girl friend. By the time the bride's parents and half the hotel staff get in on the act, the chaos reaches nuclear proportions! Perfect Wedding closes the season September 11-27, 2015.
