"Small business is vital to the success of every community. I applaud our small business owners for their commitment and investment to the City of Hammond." Always remember to support small business, because it's the heart of our business community." - Africa Tarver, Director or Economic Development for City of Hammond

"Local small businesses are the core of the community. When you choose to shop at local small businesses, that supports jobs for local people and any profits generated are likely to be spent locally as well. At We Are Family Home Care, we are locally owned and operated as well as life-long residents of the community. We make a point to support local organizations and events related to our clients. We are not a franchise and created our independent company in the very spirit of locally owned small business hiring local, spending local, and supporting other local small businesses." - Jason Bazarko, owner of We Are Family Home Care

"Shopping at local family owned businesses is critical this time of year, many small businesses may have a seasonality to them and as we head into the holidays the visitor traffic slows down and we must rely on those in our community to sustain the business and its' employees through the winter months, who in turn spend their paychecks within the community, it is a self perpetuating model when done right." - Tim Anderson, Owner of Shady Creek Winery

"Shopping local is an excellent way to boost our local economy. When you shop locally, you are helping a family. Local business owners are invested in the community because their kids go to the local schools, they attend the local churches, and they frequent other local businesses. So the money that you invest here, stays here." - Tevlyn Schwerd, Owner of Bargain Barn Inc.

"As owners of a small business, Todd and I think it's extremely important to support the other local businesses around us because not only are we putting our money back into the local economy that will stay here, we are helping to create more jobs in the area so people won't have to travel so far for work, schools are benefiting because many business owners grew up in the area and have their kids attending the local schools, and we're helping nonprofits in the area to benefit as well because small businesses are very generous to local causes. It's an effect that comes full circle." - Heather Henderlong, owner of Extra Mile Fitness Company

"We are big supporters of shopping local. By supporting local businesses you are supporting your family, friends, and neighbors in your community. This helps local economy and quality of living in your community as a whole." - Beth Luncsford, Marketing Director for the Duneland Chamber of Commerce

"This nationally recognized day encourages people across the nation to shop at small, local businesses. Shopping local is an investment in your community; more of your dollars local rather than going to a faraway corporation. Participating businesses in our Region are running promotions and deals to celebrate #ShopSmall." - Jane Powers, Membership Director for the Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce
