Write a Theme, Win a Prize Contest Organized by SSCVA

Is your heart set on getting that one special gift for Christmas? Ralphie Parker from the holiday classic “A Christmas Story” had his heart set on unwrapping a Red Ryder BB Gun on Christmas morning. Ralphie poured out his yearning to his teacher, Miss Shields, in a theme-writing homework assignment he was given. This season, the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority wants to hear what you want for Christmas. Submit an entry in the Write a Theme Contest for a chance to win a prize.

Entries for the “What I Want For Christmas” Write a Theme Contest must be dropped off at the Indiana Welcome Center or mailed to “Write a Theme Contest, 7770 Corinne Drive, Hammond, Indiana 46323” and must be postmarked by Dec. 10, 2014. Entries must include the entrant’s name, address, phone number and age category, and should be more than 20 words but not exceed 250.

There are four age categories: 7 and under, 8-12, 13-17, and 18 and older. Winners in each category will win a prize valued between $50 and $150.

The Write a Theme Contest is part of the ongoing “A Christmas Story” Comes Home exhibit, which is presented in agreement with Warner Bros. Consumer Products. The exhibit features six animatronic window displays depicting scenes from the holiday classic “A Christmas Story.” The exhibit runs from Nov. 8, 2014, through Jan. 4, 2015.
