Registration Open for 2016 Summer Classes & Camps at Lubeznik Center for the Arts

rot5Lubeznik Center for the Arts (LCA) summer class offerings for children, teens and adults are currently open for registration. Weekly sessions are available or those looking to develop new skills and workshops for those looking for a flex their creative muscles. Sessions and camps for kids are a great solution for keeping them culturally engaged during summer break. Classes fill quickly, so please register early to secure your spot!

Adult Classes
Heat up your inspiration this summer by polishing an existing skill or by trying something brand new. Adults can choose from offerings like International Art Cinema with Michelle Boardman where participants will explore pivotal films such as Chris Marker's French film montage, "La Jetee" and Fritz Lang's "M". Discover a broad range of concepts, strategies and processes in Abstract Painting with artist Jay Zerbe, who exhibited at LCA earlier in the year. Other classes include Photography (with George Kassal), Drawing Bootcamp for artists of all levels (with Michelle Wiser) and the ever-popular Sandcastle Writers (with Jo Pilecki).

Young Artists
Looking for some creative activities for your child now that school is out? LCA provides a variety of classes for young artists from ages 4 to 18. Choose from Art Sprouts (with Dori Huber), Cartooning & Manga (with Bill Cavalier) and Painting for Teens (with Michael Wernik).

Summer Camps
Take the stress out of summer planning by registering your child early for one of LCA's Summer Camps with instructor Nani Murphy. Camps are geared for ages 7 to 13. Inspired by Nature is an all new two-week camp from July 11 through 22. Famous Artists Camp, returns as a one-week camp with all new projects starting August 1 through 5. Children will create their own masterpieces as they investigate significant artists. LCA Education Director, Janet Bloch states, "Our camps offer a wonderful immersion into the arts of other cultures and historic art movements. Students get an education that opens new worlds for them while they have fun."

Art classes and camps are within reach for all kids in Michigan City! The Michigan City Public Art Committee directs a certain amount of money towards its Children's Scholarship Fund which funds art classes for children in Michigan City. This scholarship is for residents ages 5 to 18. The process includes a simple one-page application. The link can be found at www.lubeznikcenter.org and by clicking on "classes".

Workshops
Single-session workshops are available for those who are tight-on-time or maybe just looking for a day to treat themselves. Workshops include the new Crystals & Wire Wrapping. Participants will learn the "cage" wrapping technique while learning about crystals with instructor, Sam Lakin. Indigan Storyteller (with Mary Dean Cason & Roger Batton) will cover the structural composition of storytelling and finish with a live performance of participant's work. Zentangle returns by popular demand with certified instructor, Patti Shaffner. This method is known to increase focus and creativity, along with an increased sense of personal well-being.
