The 56th Annual Chesterton Art Fair will be held Saturday and Sunday, August 2-3 at Hawthorne Park in Porter, IN. The hours of the fair are 10-5 each day and the admission charge is $5 per person for the entire event. Parking is free.
Many Porter county artists will be participating in this year's Art Fair. Portage area artists include Cynthia Hicks (jewelry artist from Ogden Dunes), Robert Witt (clay artist from Portage), Jet Wittenberg (oil painter from Portage), and Clyde Selsor (new photographer from Portage).
Returning Valparaiso artists include Robert Albers (wood artist from Valparaiso), Jackie Gray (fiber artist from Valparaiso), and George Millet (watercolorist from Kouts). Plus, the Art Fair will welcome a group of new participants from Valparaiso - Jennifer Boland (photographer), Laurie Schirmer Carpenter (oil painter) and Raymond Melevage (oil painter).
Chesterton artists include Chris Acton (weaver from Chesterton), Mary Acton (psyanky eggs from Chesterton), Stephanie Carnell (printmaker from Porter), Rita Jackson (clay sculptor from Chesterton), MaryAnn Pals (pastel artist from Chesterton), Jayde Petersen (jewelry artist from Chesterton), Mark VanderVinne (oil painter from Porter)and Carol Shepherd (jewelry artist from Porter).
These artists, along with 80 others from 11 states will be exhibiting artwork in a multitude of mediums - painting, drawing, photography, jewelry, sculpture, weaving, glass and pottery, to name a few.
The Golden Fingers, a Chesterton-based ukulele band, will perform each day at the Art Fair. Volunteers from local churches will be in charge of the food and beverage booths. A children's activity booth will allow kids the opportunity to create a piece of art.
Proceeds from the Chesterton Art Fair go to the Art Education Fund at the Chesterton Art Center. Over 1,000 children participate in art classes each year, creating projects and learning to appreciate and enjoy art in many forms.
