Generous Crown Point Community Foundation Grant Ensures “Safe Place for Kids” at Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana

bgc-nwiThe Crown Point Community Foundation has ensured the continued safety of hundreds of Boys & Girls Clubs members with a generous grant in the amount of $6,195.00 that was used to replace the previous fire alarm system in the Cedar Lake Boys & Girls Club.

“Overall safety is one of the key components when assessing the Club Members’ experience,” explained Lisa Patrick, Vice President of Operations. “While our innovative programs are designed to empower youth to excel in school, become good citizens and lead healthy productive lives, the safety of our equipment and Club facilities is just as important.”

“Support from individual donors, corporate sponsors and charitable organizations like The Crown Point Community Foundation are essential to the life-changing, life-saving work we do here at Boys & Girls Clubs of NWI,” said Orlando Drummond, Grants Operations Manager. “We appreciate the generous support of the Crown Point Community Foundation and its overwhelming understanding of the impact our Clubs have on thousands of Club members and their families throughout Northwest Indiana.”

The fire alarm system grant accompanies a First Responders’ Event to be held at the Cedar Lake Club on September 21st, from 5:00 – 6:30 P.M. First Responders in the Town of Cedar Lake and in Lake County are invited to meet the Club members and community members and are encouraged to bring emergency equipment and vehicles. At 6:00 P.M., the Club will provide dinner to the First Responders and their immediate families, to honor and celebrate all who serve and sacrifice to make our community safe and secure.

About The Crown Point Community Foundation
In 1989, longtime area physician and community leader, Dr. John Birdzell, met with fellow Crown Point Rotary members to discuss the need for establishing a public charitable organization dedicated to building permanently endowed funds that distribute grants for community needs. The idea was well received. Much brainstorming and administrative preparation followed, including incorporation and tax exemption certification. In 1990, the Crown Point Community Foundation was a reality.

A community foundation is a pool of many separate endowment funds established by individuals and corporations to enhance the quality of life in the community. A board of directors, composed of local leaders, invests these pooled funds and distributes grants each year for community needs. A 19 member volunteer Board of Directors governs the Crown Point Community Foundation. The Foundation administers over 300 funds and has assets totaling over 24 million dollars.

The Crown Point Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity. The Foundation is a member of the IN Philanthropy Alliance. The Foundation office is located at 115 S. Court St. in Crown Point, Indiana.
