Hammond YMCA Preschool Sixth Annual Trike-A-Thon Raises $1079 for St. Judes

St-Judes-Trikathon-2016The YMCA preschool class in Hammond, Ind. raised $1079 in it’s sixth annual Trike-A-Thon to benefit children in St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital on March 11.

The event started at 9 a.m., where Rebecca Christian, preschool director talked to the class about bicycle safety and told the parents what the children will be doing during the event.

Christian believes the event was successful and they were able to achieve more than anticipated.

“It’s always a wonderful feeling of having the support of the parents and families of our Preschool program, helping with this great cause,” Christian said. “Every bit helps, regardless of how little or how much it is. It’s helping a child in need of care.”

The goal of this year’s event was $750, but the class reached their goal with online donations alone.

“We had 11 participants turn in money for the donations, but it really comes down to the children being safe and also helping one another,” Christian said.

The preschoolers got to ride around the course for a practice run before the event started.

Debra McGee, donator and parent of a preschooler at the YMCA, heard about the event through her daughter’s class taught by Christian.

“We thought it was important for her [our daughter] to know it is good to give back,” McGee said. “It is important to know that there are kids out there that need the help.”
