Food Bank’s Annual Walk for Hunger Will Be October 4

food-bank-nwi-logoThe Food Bank of Northwest Indiana will host their 12th annual Hope’s Harvest Walk/Run for the Hungry at the Gary/Chicago International Airport on October 4th. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and all proceeds will go to partnering food pantries and soup kitchens. Past walks have raised upward of $80,000.

Entrants can register as a team or individual by going online to www.nwifoodbank5k.org. Registration is $25/person and includes breakfast, lunch, a t-shirt and goodie bag. Race begins at 9:15am for runners and 9:20am for walkers.

The Food Bank of NWI is located in Gary and supplies food to more than 90 pantries and soup kitchens in Lake and Porter Counties. In addition to distributing food to their member agencies, the Food Bank also runs a number of other programs providing food to youth, seniors and more than 5,000 individuals a week.

There are more than 104,000 people in Northwest Indiana that do not know where their next meal is coming from and the need for hunger relief is great. The 12th Annual Hope’s Harvest 5K Walk/Run for Hunger will help provide meals to those in need.
