Relay Celebrates Survivorship, Cancer Survivors, Caregivers Invited to Dinner

relayLogoThe American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life event is often defined as a celebration of life, symbolizing the courage and spirit of the more than 600,000 cancer survivors who, each year, proudly walk the event’s survivor lap at more than 5,200 Relay For Life events worldwide.

In that spirit, the Relay for Life of Duneland invites all cancer survivors and their caregivers to a complimentary Survivors Dinner.

This year’s Relay for Life of Duneland will take place from noon until 6 a.m. this Saturday and Sunday, June 28-29, 2014, at the Chesterton Middle School Track, 651 W. Morgan Ave., Chesterton.

The Relay will feature a Survivors Lap at 4:30 p.m. This inspiring lap honors the courage of all who have defeated cancer. Cancer survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer) join together to walk the lap — unified in victory and in hope. It's an emotional example that Relay For Life is ensuring more lives are saved every year.

The Survivors Dinner will follow the lap at 5:00 p.m. in the Chesterton Middle School Cafeteria. It will be filled with food from some of the Duneland Relay’s generous community sponsors including Popolano’s, Sage Restaurant, Luke Oil of Burns Harbor, Lemon Tree Mediterranean Grill, Ruge Meats, AdvantaClean of NW Indiana, The Port Drive-In, George’s Gyros Spot, Sunrise Cafe, Val’s Famous Pizzeria & Grinders, Little Caesar’s, AJ’s Pizza, Pizza Hut, El Salto, Chili’s of Michigan City, Kim’s Chocolates, Cake Heads and Jewel.

Survivors and caregivers are invited to stay for the poignant Luminaria Ceremony at dusk as well.

The atmosphere of Relay For Life is one of camaraderie and celebration, providing an opportunity for cancer survivors to pass the torch of hope on to those still battling cancer.

If you would like to register for the survivor dinner, please visit the registration tent at Relay on Saturday.
