Oak Hill Cemetery to Rededicate Flag Pole

Through a partnership with the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority and the Oak Hill Cemetery Restoration Project, the long-standing flag pole at Oak Hill Cemetery will be rededicated on Saturday, September 14. The public is invited to attend the ceremony beginning at 11:00 a.m.

U.S. Congressman Peter J. Visclosky will be dedicating and presenting a flag that has previously flown over the Capitol building through the Capitol Flag Program. State Representative Linda Lawson will also be in attendance and presenting a flag that has previously flown over the State Capitol building.

The rededication ceremony will include the unveiling of Eagle Scout candidate Kyle Bergfors’ beautification project. Bergfors recently completed his Eagle Scout project of enhancing the area around the flag pole.

The Oak Hill Cemetery Restoration Project is a grassroots group of volunteers, cemetery advocates and descendants who are committed to the preservation, appreciation and respect for the history and roots of Oak Hill Cemetery. The goal of the organization is to help improve the general appearance of the cemetery.
