Help Strike Out the Need for Blood and Become a “Most Valuable Donor”

Donating blood is a valuable endeavor for anyone in a community to undertake. It turns out that most donations only take about 10 minutes and are in high demand in the Northwest Indiana Region. Luckily, a group of senior care providers is working to fill that demand.

On July 17th blood donors from all around are welcome to Clarendale of Schererville from 11am -2pm to give a donation. Scheduled donors will receive a free hotdog meal AND tickets to a RailCats baseball game!

Donna Brandy of RCS Home Healthcare is excited to be a part of this blood drive and knows how important it is for the community.

“I know that there is a shortage of blood in our area and since I am unable to donate blood, I wanted to do something to help in getting the needed donations,” Donna Brandy said. “Just one donor can save the lives of three people and that’s a huge motivator for me to want to get involved in doing a blood drive.”

Donna has had the need for donated blood and that is the reason this is such an important mission for her.

“I have needed multiple blood transfusions and if it wasn’t for someone taking the time to donate that blood, I may not be here today,” Donna said. “I will never know who those donors are, but I am forever grateful for their selfless act of donating.”

Everyone involved with this exciting event seems to be truly happy to assist this community, including Brooke Runyon.

“As an employee of Clarendale of Schererville I love the opportunity to support our community and surrounding communities by providing donation opportunities such as our upcoming blood drive with Heartland,” Said Runyon. “I really enjoy hearing all the stories of the blood recipients and what impact a single donation can have on them!”

"If you’re a blood donor, you’re a hero to someone, somewhere, who received your gracious gift of life," Greg Farley of Amada Senior Care said. "The blood you donate gives someone another chance at life. One day that someone may be a close relative, a friend, a loved one - or even you."

RCS Home Healthcare, Clarendale of Schereville, Amada Senior Care and the RailCats have really “stepped up to the plate” to make this blood drive a success.
