City of Crown Point to Receive Grant from TransCanada for Erie Lackawanna Trailhead

Erie-Lackawanna-TrailMayor David Uran and City Officials are pleased to announce the City received a grant from TransCanada in the amount of $35,000. Please join City officials and representatives from TransCanada on Sept 23rd at 10 am at the 93rd Ave trailhead for the check presentation. (In case of inclement weather check presentation will be moved to City Hall Council Chambers)

“We are grateful to TransCanada and appreciate their support of the Crown Point community. The grant we received through TransCanada’s Community Investment program will support the 93rd Ave trailhead,” stated Mayor David Uran.

Late next year, the City of Crown Point will begin improvements to the intersection of 93rd Avenue and Main Street. The construction of the trailhead will be in conjunction with those improvements.

“The funds will be used to add amenities such as bike racks, benches and additional shelters that will increase the use of the bike and walking trail,” said Ken Van Haitsma, manager, St. John Area, TransCanada.

Increased usage of these types of recreational areas produces healthier communities, which closely aligns with values that are important to TransCanada, Van Haitsma added.

The ANR natural gas pipeline system has been transporting natural gas since 1949. The Crown Point Meter Station and lateral were installed in 1989. ANR Pipeline has a significant presence in the area, including traversing the nearby towns of Schererville, Merrillville and St. John, where 10 TransCanada employees work at the local compressor station.
