South Shore Line Launches ETA Train Tracker System

The South Shore Line (SSL) announced on Friday, April 13, that it will be launching a new train tracker application. The train tracker, housed on the SSL website and app, will allow riders to track train locations in real time. The location of each train will be detailed on a map of the SSL rail line, and passengers will be able to see arrival and departure times for each live train, as well as any delays. Each train’s schedule will be color-coded, indicating whether the train is on time or whether there is a delay. SSL stations will be on the map and users will be able to click on each station, opening a full listing of that station’s train service for the day. Several other innovative features will also be available to help SSL riders plan effectively.

“We are always looking to improve our customers riding experience on the SSL,” said Mike Noland, South Shore Line/NICTD President. “Keeping our riders informed is critically important, and we think the new train tracker will provide them with real-time information at their fingertips to plan their trip.”

Nicole Barker, Director of Capital Investment and Implementation, added, “The team at the South Shore Line is truly excited to roll out the new train tracker, as we are certain our customers will appreciate this new service. Our riders want to know what is happening, and when, so they can stay informed and make decisions. Anything we can do to get real-time information into their hands is a good thing.”

“While we are proud of our on-time performance record and constantly strive for improvement,” Noland continued, “but the reality is that no transportation service is immune from delays. When delays do occur, it is vitally important that we get accurate and up to date information to our passengers. The new tracker helps us make great strides in this area.”

The new train tracker is scheduled to be launched at mysouthshoreline.com within the next few weeks and on the SSL app early summer.

The South Shore Line is a commuter rail line operated by the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) between Millennium Station in downtown Chicago and the South Bend International Airport in South Bend, Indiana.
