Hammond YMCA Loyal Member and Volunteer for Over 27 Years

Frank Elliott has been a member of the Hammond Family YMCA since 1990. He was a volunteer from 1990 through 2006. During the 1990’s, he volunteered as a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor teaching hundreds of children how to swim. Frank stated, “I would not know what to do without the YMCA in my life.” “I really love the YMCA.” He volunteered doing Lifeguarding and Swim Instruction in Hammond, California, Florida and at the Hobart YMCA.

Some of Frank’s hobbies are bowling, yoyo tricks, swimming and playing the harmonica. He gave bowling lessons to one of our staff members Kelsey and she went on to bowl at Calumet College. From 2004-2007, Frank was in the Senior Olympics in Florida and Indiana. He received over 30 medals for all his swimming events he participated in during those years.

On June 7, 2017, Frank took a trip to Washington, DC on the Honor Flight. There were more than 100 veterans attending the flight from Chicago to Washington. While arriving, more than 2,000 police, fire and other dignitaries greeted the veterans. They were able to visit the Korean War Memorial as well as the other memorials.

At 81, Frank is still using the Y weekly. He enjoys swimming and talking with all the staff and members.
