City of Hammond Announces Mediation Agreement among City Government, Law Enforcement and Citizens

rot5Hammond Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. announces the signing of a mediation agreement between the City of Hammond, Hammond Police Department, Hammond FOP and the Hammond Ministerial Alliance and Hammond NAACP. The signing will take place at a press conference on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Hammond City Hall, 5925 Calumet Avenue, first floor lobby.

The City of Hammond, Hammond Ministerial Alliance, Hammond NAACP, Hammond Human Relations Commission and the Hammond Police Department met in a cooperative effort to improve relations and communication among the city government, law enforcement and its citizens.

Through these mediation sessions, representatives exchanged proposals, concerns and ideas directed at improving relations and interactions among the Hammond Police and all people in Hammond. The finalized agreement provides a framework that all participants believe will have a positive impact on the evolution, progress, and economic and social growth of the City of Hammond.

The United States Department of Justice, Community Relations Service provided mediation assistance for the parties in this agreement.
