Annual Hobart Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing Provides a Good Time for Local Businesses and Residents

Chilly weather and rain couldn’t stop the golfers who attended the Hobart Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Golf Outing. Despite the poor weather conditions, golfers and businesses from all across Northwest Indiana and some as far as Chicago came out to golf, network and enjoy a little time away from work.

“These events have been occurring for a while now, but for the last 4 years, we’ve been holding it at Innsbrook Country Club. It’s a wonderful club filled with wonderful people a d they’ve always been very accepting of us,” said Hobart Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lisa Winstead.

For many, Hobart’s Chamber Event is an excellent opportunity for networking and meeting familiar faces and new people that working in a full time job position doesn’t always allow.

“There are some people here who don’t really have the freedom to get out and meet new people due to the demands of their job,” said Winstead.”By hosting events like this, people can not only come out and have fun, but meet their friends and new people.”

Hobart Chamber of Commerce Vice President Christopher Perez took charge of managing this event and looked at the rain as a minor inconvenience.

“I volunteered to be in charge of this event, “said Perez. “Truth be told, I’m not the strongest golfer here but in reality, that’s ok. We’re all friendly here and we’re all here to encourage each other and just have fun. It’s a very fun and casual event and that’s something that’s accessible to everyone.”

The golfing outing featured a shotgun start, letting the 15 teams start in different areas of the course, allowing each team ample time and space to golf at their own pace. Golfers utilized jackets, ponchos and umbrellas to stay as dry as possible as the rain poured down on the course.

Teams consisted of four golfers who were all in good spirits despite the weather. Every hole featured teams laughing, cheering each other on and lamenting their missed par.

“The camaraderie between the chamber members, main board and other community members are great and the main reason to come out here,” said Hobart Chamber of Commerce Board Member Danny DiTola. “Even like today and even if you don’t really know how to golf, this is such a great event to come out to and be with everyone. Sure, there’s a bit of competition here, but it’s all in good fun and it’s a nice day out of the office.”

As the rain intensified as the morning went on, the golfing didn’t slow down as all the golfers took the weather in stride. Bad weather and a wet course couldn’t bring down their spirits, as the Hobart Chamber celebrated another great golf outing.
