Challenger Learning Center Plans August Second Saturday Event

Challenger-Learning-CenterThe Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana will host its monthly Second Saturday Family Science Program on Saturday, August 9, beginning at 2:00 p.m. The event will include a storytelling session and two planetarium shows. The cost is $12 for adults and $10 for children.

Sit back under the planetarium stars and listen to master storyteller Grant Fitch with “Stories under the Stars.” Fitch’s energetic storytelling will keep attendees hooked as he shares accounts of some favorite stories.

The planetarium show, “Legends of the Night Sky: Orion,” is narrated by Aesop the owl and Socrates the mouse. This fully-animated cartoon takes a lighthearted look at the myths and stories associated with the winter constellation Orion, the great hunter, and how he and his hunting dogs came to be in the night sky. Attendees will also be shown easy-to-use stargazing tips to find points of interest in the skies over southern Lake Michigan during “South Shore Skies.” The Orion show starts at 3:00 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.

The planetarium show, “Legends of the Night Sky: Perseus and Andromeda,” reveals the story of these two star-crossed lovers through the magic of lasers. “Legends of the Night Sky: Perseus and Andromeda” begins at 3:45 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Those not wishing to participate in the storytelling session may purchase tickets to either of the planetarium shows for $5 for adults or $3 for children. A special package including both shows is $8 for adults and $5 for children.
