St. Mary’s Students Take to the Streets of Crown Point in Support of Teachers

On the morning of Friday, October 21st, 2018, at 10:00 AM, students at St. Mary Catholic Community School will show their appreciation for their teachers by participating in a walk-a-thon. This year’s walk-a-thon, the 10th, is organized by St. Mary’s Parish Council and Finance Council representatives, Penny Pappas and Lowell Killion. “We are very grateful for the education provided by the teachers and the foundation in the Catholic faith they share,” said Ms. Pappas.

The purpose of the walk is to show appreciation and raise funds for the teachers. Teachers at St. Mary’s dedicate their lives to educating children at great personal sacrifice. They forgo higher salaries that could be earned elsewhere in order to teach where they feel that they are “called” to teach. St. Mary’s parish, led by Father Patrick Kalich and Sister Joanne Marie Schutz, have chosen to recognize the teachers of St. Mary’s for their dedication by organizing this event.

Those who have benefited from a Catholic education at St. Mary’s or elsewhere or simply want to support the good work that the teachers at St. Mary’s do are encouraged to make an online donation at: http://shortlink.stmarycp.org/walk-a-thon
