IU Alumni in Northwest Indiana to Hold Book Drive

rot1Indiana University alumni will launch a book drive to benefit organizations in Northwest Indiana beginning Monday, Sept. 10 and ending Monday, Sept. 24. Individuals may deposit gently used books in the blue collection bins conveniently available at Strack and Van Til supermarkets and Centier Banks in Lake and Porter County.

The group seeks new and used books of all types for all ages and grade levels. The drive is coordinated by the Lakeshore Region Chapter of the IU Alumni Association, with assistance from members of the IU Northwest Alumni Board and IU Northwest’s Student Alumni Association.

All books collected are re-distributed to local school libraries, service organizations and family/domestic shelters through the Lakeshore Region Chapter’s affiliation with the national Discover Books organization.

Since their first community-service collection drive and thanks to book donor support, these IU groups have provided nearly 80,000 books to readers both young and old in Lake and Porter counties.

Area organizations that would be interested in receiving some of the books collected may contact IU Northwest Alumni Relations Director Paulette LaFata-Johnson at (219) 980-6769 or alumninw@iun.edu.
