Duneland School Corporation Update, May 19, 2017

Kate Klise visit
Author Kate Klise visited Brummitt Elementary School on Wednesday as the culminating activity for the school's One School, One Book program. The entire school read Klise's book, The Show Must Go On! The students were extremely excited to meet the author. Kate Klise also visited Liberty Elementary School students on Thursday. Duneland Schools hosted its annual opening reception featuring an exhibit of art from students in grades 1-8. Many families attended the exhibit on Wednesday evening at the Chesterton Art Center where the exhibit is on display through May 23. Left to right, Jackson Elementary first grader Addison Pack shows off her 3-D artwork of a spring flower scene with her parents Carrie and Andy Pack. The exhibit is open to the public at the Art Center, 115 S. 4th Street, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Westchester Intermediate sixth grader Jeralyn Huenecke talks about her ceramic art piece with her art teacher Cheryl Muller and mother Jennifer Jones with brother Eli at the Corp. Art Show opening reception for grades 1-8. The art exhibit, featuring the selected art work of students in grades 1-8, is on display at the Chesterton Art Center, 115 S. 4th Street in Chesterton. The exhibit is open to the public through May 23 during Art Center hours.

Duneland-Schools-Update-05-19-17_04 Grant for Learning Alive
Brummitt Elementary Kindergarten teachers were awarded a grant from the Duneland Education Foundation (DEF). Along with financial contributions from Brummitt Elementary and their PTO they were able to purchase the Learning alive ® Plus reading and math suite and accessories. This program enables kindergarten students and students with learning disabilities to improve their reading and math skills through utilization of a computer equipped with a document camera, software, and cards that spring to life in 3D through the advanced technology of augmented reality.
