Liberty Cares
September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month and students at Liberty Elementary School in Chesterton participated in a weeklong school-wide service learning project to raise money for pediatric cancer that was organized by Kindergarten. This is the seventh year that LES has participated in this event. Throughout the week, some of the activities included coin collection, super hero day, gold day and a bake sale. As a culminating activity, the students, staff and families participated in a walk-a-thon during the school day. The students raised a total of $1,592.50 for Pediatric Cancer Awareness week. All funds raised went to Rusty’s Hope, Inc. established to bring hope for a cure for pediatric brain cancer patients and their families by funding pediatric brain tumor research at Ann and Robert H. Lurie’s Children’s Hospital in Chicago, IL. If you would like to know more about Rusty's Hope or if you would like donate to this cause, please visit http://www.rustyshope.org/
