Starting the new academic year with welcome news, Indiana University Northwest’s regional accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) via the AQIP Pathway was reaffirmed through 2025-26 last week.
The Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) is a pathway through which an already-accredited institution can maintain accreditation through ongoing planning, action and assessment. IU Northwest entered the AQIP program in 2002.
Like other HLC pathways to accreditation, AQIP is focused on quality assurance and institutional improvement, but with an added emphasis on helping institutions achieve continuous quality improvement. Participating in the program has helped IU Northwest keep innovation top of mind and created a culture that encourages new ways of thinking, learning and doing.
“AQIP accreditation validates our campus’s commitment to providing a high-quality educational experience that is continuously evolving and improving,” said Chancellor William J. Lowe. “This is a well-deserved recognition of our collective efforts to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and adaptability to succeed.”
AQIP follows a rigorous eight-year cycle that involves significant monitoring, measuring and reporting of campus-wide achievements in the areas of process improvement, including outcomes for student success.
The culmination of the process is a comprehensive quality review, which IU Northwest completed in April under the guidance of the Offices of Academic Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness, in collaboration with nine cross-functional teams on campus.
