Hobart_High_School_Incoming_Freshman_par-1Through a grant from NWI Center of Workforce Innovations, there were 8 summer camp participants at the Porter County Career and Technical Education Center Summer Camp at Hobart High School. The students had the opportunity to experience leadership/team building activities, get hands on experience in CTE classes, and took a tour of St. Mary's Hospital, all to explore career opportunities prior to entering high school this fall.

On Monday, the students combined with the CTE summer camp at the Porter County Career and Technical Education Center in Valparaiso for a day of leadership and team-building activities. The students learned the importance of asking questions and the value of a firm hand-shake.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the students engaged in hands on activities in four of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs at Hobart High School. The programs included Early Childhood Education (Pre-School Program), CISCO Networking, Fundamentals of Sports Medicine, and Emergency Medical Services.

On Thursday, the students concluded the summer camp with a tour of St. Mary's Hospital lead by Mr. Robert Boby. They were very impressed about the number of employment opportunities a hospital has to offer. The students all agreed that the summer camp was beneficial to them and stated that they are interested in taking a CTE course in high school. They had a great time while learning.
