School Board Members and Administrators Strengthen their Skills at the ISBA/IAPSS 65th Annual Fall Conference

Duneland-School-CorporationSchool board members, superintendents, and administrators from around the state, including representatives from Duneland School Corporation in Chesterton attended the 65th Annual ISBA/IAPSS Fall Conference at the Indiana Convention Center, Indianapolis, IN on September 15-16, 2014. This conference, sponsored by the Indiana School Boards Association and the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents, gives members the opportunity to relate case history about solving a problem, improving an existing program or developing a new program in their school corporations.

A full schedule was featured during this two-day seminar covering topics such as Agricultural Science, High Ability Programs and Common Core & Indiana Standards. The conference featured clinic sessions such as: eLearning: An Innovative Way to Make Up Days, How Schools Are Using Education Foundations to Help Bridge Public Funding Gaps, Improving Student Learning through the Implementation of Professional Learning

Communities, Different Perspectives on Changes in the Evaluation of Indiana Teachers, A Road Map for Growth, Strategy: A Fluid Approach to Strategic Planning, United Way of Whitewater Valley-Tangible Results with a Character Building Curriculum That's Affordable, Accountability and A-F Grades, Why Superintendents Retire: Fact or Fiction?, Teacher Evaluation Plan Standards: A Rubric for Developing and Implementing Effective Teacher Evaluation Plans, Taking Control: School Corporations Collaborating to Stabilize Insurance Costs, Defining Moments in Leadership--Strategies and Tips for Handling Crisis Situations, and Disproportionality: A Significant Public School Issue.

On Monday, Larry DeBoer, Professor of Agricultural Economics, Purdue University, addressed "The Indiana Economy and Public School Funding." Jim Burgett, author and speaker, discussed "The Art Of School Boarding". Brad E. Oliver, professor of Education at Indiana Wesleyan, finished the General Sessions on Tuesday with his discussion of "Beyond Reform to Relationship: Rethinking Indiana's Approach to Educational Change."

Attending were Duneland School board members Ralph Ayres, John Marshall and Mike Trout; and administrators Dr. David Pruis, superintendent and Monte Moffett, assistant superintendent for Operations and Human Resources.
